Amidst the bustling metropolis, one may need to search for an oasis as an escapism from the modern cities; to provide refuge to those seeking a home, a haven or even a place to stop and rest from the crowded streets. In doing so, the oasis should invite diverse individuals of all genders, races and sexualities, welcoming them into a space that accepts and adopts their needs to connect.
The space will be connected architecturally by creating atriums scattered around the building, introducing additional light and allowing individuals to wander on designated paths and stairs constructed purposefully to navigate “oasis” intervals on all floors.
In preserving and accentuating the original heritage building, the iconic window frame has been conserved and reused as a pattern to create voids and generate a repetitive pattern utilised throughout the entire building. The facade of the building also takes the shape of the atrium, exaggerated but modern and clean approach to cause curiosities in the interior. In memory of the old building facade, the same materials will be recycled, fabricating a new reality on Oxford Street without eradicating the building itself, a different yet familiar face for audiences of this historic road.
